Abundance Mentality

This is the story of how a barefooted boy, from the beautiful but remote Ugandan countryside of Kisoro district beneath the Virunga Mountains, grew up to become the permanent secretary.
More than 60 years of adversity, adventure and hope are compressed in a few hundred pages to bring to life the belief that an attitude that a glass is half-full (rather than half empty) goes a long way to attracting positive things in a person's life.
Pius Bigirimana disentangles Uganda's past and weaves the tale of his family through the difficulties of the times the nation has been through to emphasise the need for a positive attitude, piety and hard work. Abundance Mentality is a testimony that beauty and success are forged using the tools of adversity and, sometimes, failure. One must show a willingness to continually adjust to changing circumstances and detect new opportunities and possibilities.

My Story
Dr. Bigirimana was born the seventh of ten children to the late Peter Kalerangabo in Kisoro District. His father emphasised the value of education, inspiring his children to pursue learning despite rural challenges. He attended local schools, including Gatete and Mutolere Primary Schools, and later studied at St. Mary’s College, Rushoroza.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration from Makerere University (1983), a Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Arts in Development Administration from the University of Manchester (1988 and 1991), and an MBA from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI) in Arusha, Tanzania (2010). In 2021, he received an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Management.
